ABOUT WATSON GLOVES
Watson Gloves first started as a two-person shop selling gloves to Vancouver’s dock workers when they opened their doors in 1918.  Over 100 years later Watson is now distributing quality gloves across North America.

Their glove innovations play a large part to their success, such as changing the industry outlook for glove manufacturing as they have launched several sustainable products into the industrial market. In 2019 Watson Gloves launched their now well known Green Monkey™ landfill biodegradable gloves. In 2020 they were industry leaders by manufacturing gloves using 100% recycled plastic bottles.

Since 2020, Watson Gloves has diverted over 3 million (500mL) plastic water bottles destined for landfills.

Ask Watson Gloves about their 'S.W.A.T' Site Audit program and how they can help you reduce hand injuries, consumption, cost as well as waste through sustainable PPE.

  • Watson Gloves Make Glove Breakthrough with New Sustainable WasteNot™ Gloves

VANCOUVER, BC, FEBRUARY 10, 2020—Watson Gloves, Canada’s leading retail distributor of quality gloves currently in their 102nd year of business, has released their WasteNot™ gloves into the market this 2020 spring. These gloves, which are perfect for gardening and landscaping, are made of recycled plastic bottles. This is a real breakthrough for the glove industry, as Watson Gloves is the first to release gloves made of post-consumer recycled materials into the market.

WasteNot™ yarn is Watson Gloves’ latest innovative material that consists entirely of recycled plastic bottles. More than one million plastic bottles are sold every minute and it takes up to 1,000 years for a plastic bottle to decompose. In an effort to become more environmentally-conscious, Watson Gloves is reusing plastic bottles for material through WasteNot™ polyester yarn instead of creating virgin material.

Plastic bottles are commonly made from polyethylene terephthalate, which is highly recyclable and reusable for materials, such as garments, shoes, and gloves. The process from turning bottles to gloves starts with recycled plastic bottles being ground into chips and melted and compressed into small pellets. It then sees a second life as it’s spun into high-quality yarn—this type of yarn material is called WasteNot™, which is used in Watson Gloves’ latest gloves. For 1 pair of Watson Gloves’ seamless knit gloves, one whole 500mL plastic bottle is used, and for 1 pair of fabric printed gloves, two to three plastic bottles are used.

“We are excited to release our new line of WasteNot™ products under our Homegrown™ and Stealth™ brands and we are very proud to be the first to bring gloves using recycled material into the market,” said Martin Moore, President of Watson Gloves. “We believe it’s increasingly important to become environmentally-conscious when making decisions both as consumers and businesses. This is our efforts in becoming more environmentally-conscious with our glove developments without compromising quality and performance, and we hope this pushes our industry to think in more innovative and sustainable ways.”

  • VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 15, 2022— Watson Gloves, a 104-year-old company founded in Vancouver, Canada and a leading supplier of quality gloves across North America, has partnered with 3M™ Thinsulate™ to release a new line of industrial gloves made with sustainable insulation. Available this fall in 15 styles, the new Watson Gloves line features 3M Thinsulate Type EC, containing 78% fibers made from post consumer recycled plastic water bottles. The insulation is Global Recycled Standard certified and produced in mills that are Bluesign and Oeko-Tex certified.

“Watson Gloves is committed to sustainable developments and innovation, and we saw an opportunity to elevate the industrial PPE industry and be a market innovator by using recycled materials,” said Laura Whitlock, Watson Gloves senior director of marketing and innovation. “Industrial workers can go through numerous pairs of gloves each year due to rugged daily use, and the used products end up in landfills. Being able to look at the beginning of the product life cycle and use sustainable materials to manufacture our gloves helps to reduce that footprint. Teaming up with a reputable company like 3M enables us to bring sustainability to the jobsite without compromising warmth or performance.”

“3M Thinsulate continuously pursues innovations to expand our sustainable product offerings. We are proud to help our progressive customers like Watson Gloves, a long-time partner for more than 40 years, to not only expand their sustainable product offerings, but also to help them support their industrial customers’ ESG goals,” said Mike Mandanas, Ph.D., 3M Home, Health and Auto Care Division global research and development director.

3M Thinsulate EC adds to Watson Gloves’ growing portfolio of sustainable gloves, which began with the successful 2019 release of biodegradable disposable gloves, Green Monkey™ and WasteNot™ eco polyester, found in the company’s industrial and lifestyle gloves. Since 2020, Watson Gloves has diverted over 3 million plastic bottles from landfills by using rPET materials.
