New Innovations in the Lightest Cut and Impact Protection Ever
    The AeroDex® Series from Magid®

ROMEOVILLE, IL, MARCH 2021  Magid is changing the way people work with cut and impact hazards. In 2019, the company introduced AeroDex®,  a groundbreaking innovation in lightweight cut-resistant PPE. The technology is 50% lighter than comparable material, but offers the same or higher cut protection. The dexterity AeroDex provides means that workers can perform jobs that require extreme tactile sensitivity without removing their gloves. It also improves compliance because the material is engineered to make your hands feel cooler than comparable cut-resistant gloves.

Now Magid is introducing two new AeroDex gloves that take comfortable protection to the next level for multiple applications—the D-ROC GPD782 and the T-REX TRX685.“We introduced AeroDex®, our revolutionary feather-light cut-resistant material in 2019” said Sarah Anderson, Director of Product Management at Magid. “Since that time, we’ve continued to expand the line to provide cut protection up to ANSI Level A7 in a variety of coatings as well as using it as a light, comfortable base for impact gloves.”

    D-ROC® GPD782 AeroDex® PU Coated ANSI A7 Work Glove

The new D-ROC GPD782 glove features an AeroDex shell that delivers ANSI level A7 cut protection with a polyurethane coating for enhanced grip, and a reinforced Nitrile thumb saddle for improved  durability.  The GPD782 is also touch screen compatible to maintain user safety while operating electronic devices and its silicone-free coating helps prevent contamination on metal parts prior to painting and finishing. In addition to ANSI level A7 cut protection, this glove also delivers level 5 abrasion resistance and level 4 puncture resistance.

     T-REX® Flex Series® TRX685 AeroDex® Impact Glove

The T-REX® Flex Series® TRX685 is the first impact glove in the AeroDex line, delivering ANSI Level A6 cut protection plus level 2 impact protection, level 6 abrasion resistance, and level 3 puncture resistance in a light, comfortable glove. The glove’s feather-light 18-gauge AeroDex shell delivers unmatched dexterity with a NitriX palm coating for rock-solid grip in oily applications and enhanced abrasion resistance. Engineered for safety, the M-Force Defense System™ back-of-hand protection extends all the way to the fingertips and between thumb and index finger to deflect and absorb impacts. Additional features include a reinforced para-aramid thumb saddle for enhanced durability and an elasticized knit wrist cuff ensuring a secure fit.

U.S. Leaders in Heat Safety Create the First Ever National Heat Safety Coalition

Alliance Focuses on Establishing Heat-Safety Standards and Protocols for Industrial Sectors as Rising Temperatures and Rash of Heat Waves put Lives at Risk

STORRS, CT - (July 13, 2021) – MISSION®, the preeminent innovators of cooling and heat relief technologies and Magid®, the industrial leader in workplace safety innovations, today announced they are coming together with The Korey Stringer Institute (KSI) at the University of Connecticut, the nation’s leading heat safety advocate and research institute,  to form the National Heat Safety Coalition.

Magid, MISSION, and KSI will aim to serve as the country’s foremost authority and advocate group for heat stress prevention, establishing heat safety solutions and standards for the industrial sectorsThe National Heat Safety Coalition will provide heat-safety research, solutions, education and awareness with the sole purpose of eliminating heat-related injuries and illnesses in the workplace. The National Heat Safety Coalition will kick off with a series of virtual roundtable discussions with major companies and consumer groups who possess a wide knowledge of health and heat safety, cooling solutions, and industrial needs.

Millions of U.S. workers are exposed each day to heat related illness in their workplaces. Although heat illness is 100% preventable, thousands are injured every year from occupational heat exposure, with many cases ending in fatality. 50% - 70% of outdoor fatalities, whether on the job, from sports, or home improvements, occur in the first few days of working in hot environments. Heat illness is a problem indoors as well, as many manufacturing facilities with heat-producing equipment and no air conditioning are hotter on the inside than the summer temperatures outside!

By forming the National Heat Safety Coalition, the organizations also aim to address the risk factors that may increase susceptibility of heat-related illnesses on the job and identify current barriers in the industrial sector to help inform best-practice recommendations for prevention of exertional heat illnesses.

“Heat stress is a constant concern for laborers who are called on to work in hot conditions,” says Dr. Douglas Casa, a national expert on heat safety and chief executive officer of the Korey Stringer Institute. “The formation of this coalition will help develop better methods for heat safety such as body cooling, work to rest ratios, and hydration, which is an important part of our commitment to protecting workers.”

“Since we launched in 2008, MISSION has worked side by side with scientists and medical doctors to deliver revolutionary cooling and heat relief solutions that enhance performance, safety, and comfort,” said MISSION Co-Founder and President, Chris Valletta. “We have been able to prove that implementing proper cooling strategies not only increases worker and consumer safety, but it significantly improves performance, output, and efficiency as well. MISSION is excited to partner with The Korey Stringer Institute and Magid to launch the National Heat Safety Coalition in order to help combat the dangerous effects that heat-related illnesses have on everyone who works or plays in the heat.”

“Heat stress is a serious, potentially life-threatening issue that is completely treatable and preventable,” said Matt Block, Director of Health and Safety Services at Magid. “There is not currently a specific standard that covers prevention of heat stress and heat-related hazards. One of the reasons we’ve partnered with MISSION and KSI is to establish a set of protocols that will help to keep workers safe and productive in the heat.”

Magid, a leading manufacturer of personal protective equipment innovations, recently launched a new product line powered by MISSION, which includes cooling neck gaiters/face covers, cooling towels, cooling skull caps and cooling bandanas – all designed to combat heat illness in the workplace and the personal and financial ramifications it has on businesses worldwide.

    ABOUT MISSION:

Founded in 2009 by a group of world-class athletes including Serena Williams, Drew Brees and Dwyane Wade, and backed by CT -based DCF Partners, MISSION is pioneering instant cooling innovations to help individuals lead active lifestyles so that they can do more and enjoy more in the heat. With thoughtful design and state of the art technology, MISSION has developed a broad portfolio of instant cooling gear which includes cooling hats, cooling neck gaiters, cooling towels and more. National Heat Safety Coalition Releases the Country’s First Recommendations to Combat Industrial Heat Stress

The National Heat Safety Coalition’s (NHSC) industrial heat safety recommendations were peer-reviewed and accepted by American Geophysical Union (AGU).

Heat illness is 100% preventable, yet 11 workers suffer serious heat-related injury or death every day in the United States. Without federal standards for preventing heat illness on the job, the problem persists and stands to increase dramatically as the climate warms. At an average cost of $54,000 per heat prostration incident, the cost to families, employers, and the economy could become catastrophic.

The country’s first heat safety recommendations and guidance for industrial work were reviewed and accepted by the renowned scientific organization, AGU. Led by researchers at the Korey Stringer Institute (KSI) at the University of Connecticut, the 51-member team that developed these guidelines was comprised of NHSC members, doctors, industry leaders, and experts from NIOSH and the U.S. Military. The team’s recommendations focus on “protecting worker health and safety while also ensuring productivity.”

The NHSC is a partnership between Magid®,  a leader in workplace safety innovations and PPE, cooling textile experts MISSION®, and KSI to serve as the country’s leading institute for industrial heat safety, research, and advocacy. The NHSC provides heat safety information, education, and treatment recommendations aimed at eliminating heat-related injuries and illnesses in both indoor and outdoor industrial workplaces.

The document addresses eight areas that are key to keeping workers safe in hot conditions:

    1. Heat hygiene
    2. Hydration
    3. Heat acclimatization
    4. Environmental monitoring
    5. Physiological monitoring
    6. Body cooling
    7. Textiles and PPE
    8. Emergency action plans and implementation

Matt Block, Director of Health & Safety Services at Magid and NHSC Board of Advisors Member said, “The group recognized that employers would be reluctant to adopt new policies and procedures if they had an undue impact on productivity. The irony of this crisis is that heat illness actually reduces productivity and is completely preventable if employers take some fairly inexpensive measures. The lack of solid national guidelines has been the biggest obstacle to keeping people safer and preventing tragedies.”

Approval of this document is the first step in creating a foundation for focused recommendations that consider the particular needs and obstacles that each industry experiences in hot conditions due to location, machinery, difficulty of the labor, and more.

Magid is Honored by the Loyola Family Business Center for its Work in the Pandemic

The Company’s Efforts on the Front Lines of the Pandemic Kept Faulty Masks Off the Market and Supplied Needed PPE to Customers and Charities

ROMEOVILLE, IL, JULY 2021— The Loyola University Chicago Family Business Center and their sponsors BMO Harris and Katten recognize 12 family businesses, including Magid Glove and Safety, for their heroic contribution to safe jobs, meeting customer demands, and keeping employees safe throughout the pandemic.  The center is dedicated to advancing the work and impact of family businesses and the families that own and manage them.

One winner, Magid Glove and Safety, headquartered in Romeoville, is a fourth-generation, family-owned business founded in 1946. Magid leads the safety industry with revolutionary innovations in PPE, a team of safety experts, skilled in-house manufacturing, and a worldwide network of suppliers. The company sources and develops everything you need to keep industrial workers safe.

When Covid-19 first hit, Magid sales took a dive. That lasted less than two weeks before it was apparent that Magid could shift what they were doing and start making some Covid-19 related products to keep their employees going and to provide needed protection for the health care industry. Magid, being in the safety business, was well suited to provide PPE during the pandemic.

According to Greg Cohen, CEO Magid Glove and Safety, “There is no playbook for this. It was so new, we were writing the rules as we went. We really felt this was our opportunity to help.  We were one of the few companies with the true ability to analyze and test some of the masks coming into the country. We were finding that only one or two of 10 or 20 samples coming in were good masks, and we really wanted to get the word out.”

Magid partnered with ABC News and offered a free testing service for N95 and KN95 masks. They were able to weed out the bad masks from the good ones and they prevented what could have been millions of masks being put on first responders and the public, who could have unknowingly been put at risk of contracting Covid-19. Magid then partnered with multiple organizations, Google being the primary one, to provided masks and other Covid-19 related products for the community and other organizations. The company also partnered with the CDC Foundation, the Anthony Rizzo FoundationWHCA/WiCAL and Kareem Abdul Jabbar and his management company, Iconomy, LLC, to provide protection for the public and at-risk members of our community.

According to Anne Smart, Director of the Loyola Family Business Center, “We are privileged to witness the personal and at times emotional commitments they make to their employees, their communities and the sustainability of their businesses. The economic and public health crisis brought about by the pandemic tested everyone. In the midst of the crisis, we have been impressed and bolstered by stories of courage, integrity, and leadership demonstrated by the best family firms.

Cohen added, “We’re honored to receive the Loyola Family Business Center’s Hero award. At Magid, safety is not just our job. It has been our legacy for 75 years now. We are thankful to have had the opportunity to help our community, first responders, and employees during the pandemic and thank Loyola, BMO Harris, and Katten for supporting communities and family business.”

Magid is a fourth-generation, family-owned, U.S.-based manufacturer and global distributor of head-to-toe Personal Protective Equipment.
