Kermel® fiber is used in protective fabrics, which are amongst the lightest and most comfortable ones to have passed the NFPA 70E standard. Kermel lightweight fabrics feel as soft as cotton yet do not pill and are highly durable without compromising on protection for the wearer.
The NFPA 70E Standard describes how to protect workers from the heat of electric arc exposures. The revised version requires employees to wear flame resistant (FR) protective clothing that meets the requirements of ASTM F1506 wherever there is possible exposure to an electric arc flash.
Employers have to determine the arc flash protection boundaries, to conduct an arc flash hazard analysis and to equip employees with protective clothing for the corresponding Hazard/risk category
having an arc thermal performance value (ATPV) of at least the value listed in the standard.
With lighter (6.1 oz/y2) weights, Kermel solutions reach the Class 2 performance level normally achieved by heavier products weighing 7.5 oz/y2.
