Being Resilient and Adaptable in Times of Change and Uncertainty

Massimino's second space flight was one of the last of the Space Shuttle Program. It was time for NASA to retire the shuttle and move on to the next phase in space exploration. The next phase included flying exclusively on the Russian Soyuz for a few years, and working with commercial companies to provide launch services in the future. Many at NASA did not want to accept these changes. But the last few years have shown that those who accepted these changes thrived, while those who resisted are no longer contributing. We may not like the new world we are now living in that has forced us to change the way we do business. But by accepting change and knowing that change can provide unseen opportunities, we can still shoot for the stars.

Occupational Keynote:  8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

OSHA Update

Get the inside scoop as OSHA Assistant Secretary Douglas Parker discusses what is in store for OSHA. Already, OSHA has been active on COVID-19 interventions, heat illness, workplace violence and other topics. Hear first-hand about what more is to come.

Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety & Health

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Panel: 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) is an important component of safety and health and is increasingly integrated into workplace safety and health plans. While we do know Hispanic or Latino workers experience a fatality rate 36% higher than white non-Hispanic workers while black or African American workers have a rate 6% higher. There is a lot we do not know. Also, the link between DE&I and safety outcomes may be unclear for some professionals.

We have assembled a stellar panel to learn from their actions and facilitate an extended conversation on the topic of occupational safety and health and DE&I. Join us a 90-minute presentation.

New this year, the Closing Keynote will be a two part experience.

Closing Keynote: Featuring the Inaugural Safety Innovation Challenge 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Part 1: Innovation in a Tumultuous World

Collaborating with unlikely characters to tackle seemingly impossible challenges and finding innovative ways to overcome them, is what Mick and Not Impossible Labs have done for the last 10 years. Now introduce a global pandemic. What do we do now? How do we maintain an innovative culture in our very disrupted and strange new world? How do we embrace experimentation as a pathway to breakthroughs? In this conversation, Mick will briefly explain the origin of Not Impossible, the NI design process, and dive deeper into Not Impossible's newest world changing solutions.

Part 2: Inaugural Safety Innovation Challenge

Immediately following the keynote speech, the National Safety Council MSD Solutions Lab, will conduct its inaugural Safety Innovation Challenge. This event is in partnership with Safety Accelerator - a non-profit established by the Lloyd's Register Foundation with a mission to make the world safer more sustainable through wider adopton of technology. Challenge finalists will showcase and demo their cutting-edge solutions focused on risk prevention and elimination of the most common workplace injury, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

The top innovations have the opportunity to be piloted by some of the world's leading employers, backed by the support of NSC and the MSD Solutions Lab.
